The Breeder

Welcome to Dinda, one of the world's southern most Sheltie kennels located beside the Otago Harbour at St Leonards - a suburb of the city of Dunedin, New Zealand.

The kennel name orginates from a former family farm in South Canterbury in the late 1880's.

I have been involved with dogs since the age of three when a cocker spaniel puppy, Butch, joined our family in 1953. He was followed by two farm crossbreeds, Tussock and Trixie, who both lived to healthy ages.

The shelties came in early 1983, with the puppy Murdo of Belnabodach, CDX, followed after six months by his dam, Ch Corrie of Belnabodach, both purchased from Marie and Douglas Farquharson. Holding four CC's to her credit, my show handling apprenticeship began and Corrie achieved her title six months later. Meanwhile I was becoming very involved with dog obedience, MacDuff proving to be more than equal to the task. After winning through to Test B level and achieving his CDX, MacDuff was retired when Ch Prosper Hi Phashion was purchased in 1987 as a four month old puppy from Leonie Clarke of Christchurch.

Kenzie became the show-girl and foundation bitch for the kennel and she is behind all my present dogs.

St Leonards is situated midway between Dunedin and Port Chalmers.

Involvement with dog club administration started in 1983, and I held the position of Secretary/Treasurer with the Otago Working Dog Association for a number of years. At the present time I am President of the Southern Ladies Kennel Association, Secretary to the NZKC Forrester Park Managament Committee and Breed Historian for the three NZ shelties clubs.

Another side of the dog world is judging, and while being a rather late starter here, I'm nevertheless enjoying the challenge and am on the NZKC Ribbon Parade and Open Show Panels, the latter from 2002.

Thank you for visiting my kennel, please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries or enquiries
